On Thursday June 19, 2008 51 brothers and BU staff enjoyed a great day of golf, food, beer and socializing at the 6th annual tournament held at the Hamlet Wind Watch Golf and Country Club in Hauppauge. Four active brothers of the fraternity, Greg Genser, Jon Katz, Steve Cindrich and Matt Ring, joined the alumni for a great day of interaction of young and...old!

As proof that anyone (including non golfing scrubs) can win under the one day Callaway handicap format, Jock Doc Michael Schwartz took home the grand prize, the TAU Bowl of Sportsmanship, with a gross score of 109 and net score of 73. Doc combined a few pars and bogeys with blow up 8, 9's and one 10! Congrats to Mike who almost fell off his chair when the winner was announced.

Steady March Fuchs was the net runner-up with a gross score of 89 and net score of 74. He received a smaller version of the Bowl. Fuchs has consistantly placed in the money at prior TAU outings.

Taking full advantage of his home course edge, low gross was won by Larry Hollander with a score of 85. Brian Segel was the low gross runner up with a steady 91.

As is evident, the course change resulted in much higher scores and a more competitive result due to the handicapping system. Only two brothers, Hollander and Fuchs, broke 90 and only 11 of the 44 golfers broke 95. The numerous water holes at the course, not to mention the number of balls that went swimming, took its toll.

The senior 70's "white and blue" team of elder brothers Ken Munnelly, Barry Nelson, Marty Dvorkin and Marc Fuchs took home the team prize with a net score of 71. They prevailed in a tiebreaker over the 80's team of Brian Segel, Steve Stimmel, Joel Cohen and Sanjay Malhotra who also finished with a net 71. Lower gross gave the edge to the winners.

Other winners: Dale Carpenter was closest to the pin at Hole #8 and Joel Cohen at Hole 15. Alumni Association director Dan Polhamus had the longest drive outdistancing Athletic Department AVP Chris Lewis.

The general consensus was that the course change and extra bucks that go with it were well worth the money. The weather was simply gorgeous and many brothers who could not play a round showed up just for the dinner to see old friends. The food was great and several "steps up" from the Van Cortlandt culinary experience.

Several brothers contributed great raffle prizes i.e. Yankee, Met, Jet and Islander tickets, and the BU Athletic and Alumni Association staff brought lots of goodies.

The raffle raised over $2,000 for the Tex Haran Scholarship and almost $30,000 of principal funds has been raised to date. This years recipient of the TAU Haran Scholarship, acitve brother Matt Ring, was in attendance.

The BU Alumni Association contributed funds to assist in making the outing financially viable and we extend our thanks to them and especially Dan Polhamus and Felicia Malarky. Felicia, (who is engaged to "Latin Lover" bro Jose Moreira who was also in attendance) assisted in the raffle prize presentation and gave Vanna White a run for the money. Barry Nelson flew up from Florida for the event and it was great to see him.

We hope all you guys had a good time and will spread the word for an increased turnout next year. We need more guys in order to qualify for a "shotgun" start at the course.

Michael Marcus unfortunately had to leave immediately after his round to attend a family event in Vermont.

Be well everyone.

Michael Marcus and Larry Hollander, Co-Chairmen
